Vacation Brain

It feels strange to be on vacation and not have a book to read or journal to write in. I finished my journal before we left for vacation. I don’t think I realize how much I need to write until I don’t have a pen, paper, or keyboard.

I think this was journal number 20 or so that I finished. I may be over estimating but that’s ok. You can be a little off on vacation. This last journal took me two years to finish. I bought an extra thick one on purpose because my trunk where I keep them seems to be running out of room. I’m going to have to reorganize. I didn’t write as much when I was pregnant and first had Axel. I like to write at night before I fall alseep. I like to brain dump all my random thoughts and experiences on the pages. I think it’s important to capture the memories and sometimes it helps me sleep at night when something particularly embarrassing or angering happened. At some point you say all you can about the thing. Then there’s nothing left to do but fall asleep.

I’m in the Florida Keys with the whole family. We’re down here to celebrate my grandma’s 90th birthday. When I look at my grandma I don’t see 90. I see Grams, kicking it as strong as ever. I loved seeing her light up when all her friends came over to celebrate. Family is fun but sometimes friends are better. My cousins made a strawberry pistachio birthday cake. It was vegan but you couldn’t even tell. It was delicious! I wish I could say I saved you a piece. 😉

I listened to my dad talk about the classes he’s prepping for next year. They’re on innovation and entrepreneurship courses. He told me about the real life examples of innovation that he plans to share with the class. It sounds like it’s going to be a fun course. I think college kids are looking more for real life examples and problems in the classroom.

Looking back, I think I had good real life examples and projects to work on in my MIS major. We learned diagramming, identifying bottle necks, and how to redesign those areas to solve the problem. All real life things I did as a business analyst.
