1st Quarter Refresh
The 1st Quarter Refresh is a 20 day challenge in helping you start off the year right. We tackle one task a day. Sign up now if you want to join (it’s free).
In The Home Edit, Clea Shearer and Joanna Teplin promise that their book does more than teach you how to transform your junk drawer. They promise that home organization benefits you and your family in the most common ways like saving time, money, your sanity. Their book even provides closure at removing physical objects from your life and the meaning they may hold over you. Clea and Teplin ask that you keep these things in the back of your mind as you go through their book.
As you go through the 1st Quarter Refresh, keep in mind that this too is an exercise. You may not come out on the other side with specific goals and resolutions for there year. And that’s OK. It’s about going through the exercise of taking everything out, examining it, and seeing if it still has place in your professional life. Take the momentum of the new year to make it what you want it to be.
But in order to start with our mental junk drawers, we have to take a look inside.

Today’s Assignment: Write down what you accomplished in 2020
One of the things I appreciate about Clea and Joanna is that they embrace what they call the “Low-Bar Lifestyle”.
They say its a credo to “describe just barely managing to make it through the day yet still feeling like you achieved something.” Is anyone else feeling those 2020 vibes? “Clea and Joanna say, “It’s about setting the bar just low enough that you can accomplish all kinds of bite-size victories…” Isn’t that what goal setting in general is all about?
- Set the timer on your phone for 5 minutes.
- Write down a list of things you accomplished in 2020. Even if it’s one thing that counts. We’re here to acknowledge that we did it. Did you write a blog post? Start a side project? Update your resume? Good for you. That counts as a success.
If we accomplished at least one thing in 2020, think of how much more we can do in 2021! If five minutes doesn’t seem to be enough time to write down your accomplishments, feel free to bump it up by a minute each time the timer goes off. Definitely keep it under 10 minutes. We’re keeping it “Low-Bar” to start. 😉
